About Me

I am a fully qualified person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist. My approach is shaped around you and is holistic. I work with adults and children over the age of 12 years. I provide a quiet, confidential and professional environment that has helped so many people overcome their difficulties in life, and I look forward to being by your side on your journey. I will always treat you with the utmost respect and dignity.

I offer a friendly, nurturing, and therapeutic environment in my practice, online and outdoors. Face-to-face counselling sessions take place in a safe and comfortable space in Norwich and Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Two are in central Norwich at The Yoga Tree (there is ample parking at Sainsbury’s across the road) and at The Consulting Rooms on Newmarket Road. I also have a beautiful therapeutic space in a rural setting close to Bury St Edmunds.

You offer a space that is so comforting and peaceful, in which I can be my whole, open, and honest self. The weight on my shoulders that has felt impossible for me to lift is most certainly lifting with your help. Each week I feel excited to be in your presence where I know that I am safe. I cannot wait to see where this journey leads. Thank you so much.

Naturally me counselling has helped me in more ways than I ever expected. I was feeling so low and couldn’t understand why, but Emily was just amazing at breaking everything down for me and making me realise that I am not alone. She was easy to talk to and I could really tell that she genuinely cared about me and she really wanted to help. I would recommend Emily to anyone that would need help as she is so easy to talk to and very warming, thank you Emily. I wish you knew how much I appreciate it.

I contacted Emily to talk through my feelings after the death of two close family members as I felt stuck at times in my grief and sadness. Emily was warm, caring, easy to talk to and paid close attention to whatever I said without judging. She never rushed me or asked unnecessary questions and focused on what I wanted to share without directing which I really appreciated. At the end of our six sessions together, I felt I had turned a corner and that Emily had helped me to better understand how I felt and why. I also felt in a much calmer place and able to begin to think about my future and what it might look like. I really felt the value of having someone to talk to who listened to everything I said, gave thoughtful insights and I felt I was heard and understood by Emily.

I have found them very enlightening and helpful during a time when I just knew I was not feeling myself but could not understand why. I am so grateful for the time Emily has given me. She listens to me so carefully and has helped me to discuss thoughts and feelings that I didn’t even really know were there in the first place- it’s great knowing that I’ve done this myself, thanks to Emily’s help. She lets me direct the focus of the sessions, she has never put pressure on me and even when I’ve not been sure what I’ve wanted to talk about going in to the session, I’ve always come out of the session feeling like it was so worthwhile to talk things through, particularly after the first couple of sessions once we’d gotten to know each other better - I’d often genuinely breathe a sigh of relief after having had the space to open up and chat to her. She has created a space where I can be my whole self completely unashamedly. She has been so easy to arrange sessions with her at a mutually agreed convenient time and via a medium which works well for me (by telephone call). Thank you Emily!

I decided to seek independent counselling online to help manage feelings of anxiety. I came across Naturally me and Emily's service and felt like this would be the right fit for me and my needs. After emailing and speaking with Emily - almost immediately! she put my mind at ease and after my sessions with her, I am feeling in a much better and happier place. The opportunity to talk to Emily about my life and my relationships has been profoundly important at a very difficult time in my life. I had been unable to function properly or see clearly and Emily has created an empathetic space to speak and think without being judged. Without my time with Emily I’m convinced my life would have taken a different turn - to my detriment and to the detriment of others. I have made better choices thanks to the listening skills and expertise of Emily. I am incredibly grateful.

I highly recommend Emily as a Therapist. From my very first session with her she put me at ease and I felt very cared for. She has a kind and compassionate nature and really listens carefully to what you say. I have previously spent a long period of time in therapy, Emily is the third professional I have had contact with, so I knew what I was looking for in a Therapist. She has gone above and beyond my expectations, because I wasn't expecting to feel such a connection with her so soon after only two sessions. She has helped me to understand some of the things I have gone through in a different way. Thank you Emily!

Emily is brilliant, she'll instantly put you at ease, allow you the freedom to talk about anything in a non-judgmental and encouraging way. Emily will take her time to form a relationship with you, she'll learn about the characters in your life, she'll learn when to let you talk and when to probe, I trust her implicitly. My favourite part of our relationship is that Emily will provide impartial re-assurance. Where my friends and family may be bias, I know that Emily will provide honest and constructive feedback, which I go on to put in action. I find our relationship very empowering and I look forward to our sessions. THANK YOU!

I had 3 months of therapy with Emily and felt comfortable in her presence in the first instance. Having never seen a therapist before, I was anxious, but Emily’s kind, compassionate and understanding nature very quickly made me feel at ease and enabled me to form an instant connection with her. I am unbelievably grateful to have been given a safe space to talk about things I have never been able to discuss so freely with anyone else. I feel completely comfortable talking about a range of issues, totally free from judgement. Emily really does offer genuine warmth and empathy - she is a lovely person and a natural healer. I felt genuinely cared about and supported throughout my entire time with her. Thank you Emily, for making me realise my worth.

Emily is a fantastic therapist and counsellor. I wasn’t sure what to expect from therapy initially, but Emily immediately put me at ease. Over the course of our sessions she helped me explore my emotions and came to some significant conclusions and decisions that were positive for me and my wellbeing. She is patient and really insightful. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone who needs support or help in navigating their way through a difficult time.

Where I work

I offer my clients a confidential space to breathe, talk, and ‘just be’. I am very committed to offering you genuine empathic understanding, warmth, acceptance and deep respect. I will help to empower you to grow and see things more clearly.

Why Choose Me

This might be your first ever search for help and counselling and it is nothing to feel ashamed or embarrassed about. In the corny sense of the phrase, ‘It is good to talk!’. Talking therapy helps us to untangle our thoughts and make sense of things and it can take time.

Making the first step is a step in the right direction and if you want to change then this is the place for you. I offer a confidential counselling service where your safety and well-being are paramount. I can help you deal with any of the issues below:

How can I help you?

The first step is to arrange an initial assessment to summarise some of the issues you wish to discuss in therapy and to get to know one another in a client-counsellor relationship. Sometimes clients do not feel their counsellor meets their needs and that is fine. Hopefully, person-centred therapy is right for you.

Online Counselling

Online counselling sessions are an alternative to face-to-face counselling however, you may wonder if it is as effective. These sessions have huge potential because you can access counselling from the comfort of your own home or anywhere in the world. After an initial assessment on Zoom, we will set up a convenient slot for our sessions. I normally offer 6-8 weeks as a starting point, however, this can be extended of course, it all depends on the needs of the client. Like face to face counselling Zoom call sessions enable us to see each other on screen and to discuss your reasons for therapy.

One-to-one counselling

Indoor Therapy:

I offer face-to-face counselling from the relaxing therapy rooms of the Yoga Tree and The Consulting Rooms in Norwich. I also have a beautiful counselling space close to Bury St Edmunds.

During our indoor session I will help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence.

I also integrate elements of other psychological approaches to meet people’s needs, as I believe a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach is not for everyone.

One-to-one counselling

Walking Therapy:

I offer walking therapy in a natural outdoor environment. The benefits of outdoor therapy are huge and help you to connect with nature. Research and recent news articles recently state that walking and talking reduces stress, anxiety and depression.

The great thing about walking therapy is that you can choose the environment where we walk and talk. We can spend time in a variety of different areas such as, the beach, the park or a nature reserve.

Free 15 minute consultation!

The initial assessment will allow us both to decide if counselling is suited to you and if you wish to continue.

50 mins: £60 for online, telephone, face-to-face therapy or walking therapy*

* I offer concessionary rates for students.

FAQ's

If your question is not answered below then please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

A person-centred counsellor will help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence. Person-centred counselling is one of the humanistic modalities or approaches. It was founded in the 1940s by the American psychologist Carl Rogers who believed that, given the right conditions, a person can reach their full potential and become their true self, which he termed ‘self-actualisation’.

You can book a free initial appointment of 15 minutes through calendarly on the front page of my website or can send me a message via email or ring me.

1 session lasts for 50 minutes.

Every counsellor is different and there are many different modes of therapy. In person-centred therapy, we explore your issues together. As your counsellor I am committed to ensuring you feel safe and comfortable. Counselling is more effective when you feel relaxed and can speak freely without fear of rejection or being judged. My aim is to create the right conditions so that you can be yourself, your authentic self. I am here to help you to discover yourself and to raise your self-awareness.

Online therapy is similar in many ways to face-to-face counselling. Video and telephone do not give us the same sense of someone’s ‘presence’ compared to being physically in the room with them. It is understandable that you may think online counselling is not as effective, but studies consistently show that online therapy has been extensively researched as being equally as effective as face-to-face sessions. Therefore, online therapy can be effective. You can talk about your issues at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home. Online counselling requires a safe, quiet space for the entire session, where you will not be overheard or disturbed by other people or pets.

It costs £60 for online, telephone, face-to-face therapy or walking therapy.

* I offer concessionary rates for students.

By bank transfer in advance. Please allow 24 hours for online sessions and 48 hours for face-to-face to secure a place.

Details about how to pay will be explained in your initial assessment.

I have a pricing and a cancellation policy.

Yes. I charge £45.00 for students.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Registered members of BACP have been appropriately trained as counsellors, have regular supervision and undertake continuing professional development. We are also committed to working under the BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling.

It is up to you. I am happy to do what works for you.
